When it comes to men’s business dressing, we typically see a lot of the same. Black. Grey. Three-season wool. And pleats – way too many pleats. There are even theories out there that laud the boring and ordinary. Not to mention, it’s easy. Wearing the same thing every day is simple. Nothing to think about. “What should I wear today? Oh, I’ll just mimic what I wore yesterday and the day before that. Done.”
But switching it up and putting thought into your look is a good thing for your career. For one, you’ll take more pride in your appearance. Two, you’ll stand out among the sea of pleats. Three, you’ll look original and open to advancing new ideas.
So far at New York Fashion Week, I’m seeing that men’s business casual is getting a fresh update for Spring 2014. Here are a few reimagined looks spotted at the Nautica Black Sail Collection and Todd Snyder shows.
See how the dress shorts, denim button-fronts, and cropped pants stand out against a black and white backdrop? Imagine what they’ll will do for you against your cubical wall.
