Rue Travel Guide: What to Do Come Fall in Nantucket
Sure, Nantucket may be synonymous with seersucker, sailing, and, well, summertime – but don’t expect the good times to stop come September. From fishing tournaments and local festivals to a gathering of the world’s leading thinkers, we went ahead and started that autumn-in-Nantucket to-do list for you.
The Nantucket Bluefin Blast and the Nantucket Slam both go down at the beginning of September. Recreational and avid anglers (with or without their own boats) are invited to fish bluefin tuna, bluefish, bonito, striper, and albie in these catch-and-release tourneys.

The Nantucket Project
Each year, the Nantucket Project hosts some of the world’s leading thinkers, visionaries, and performers for an event that helps shape the national dialogue on some of the most important issues we face today. This year, look out for international heavyweights as diverse as former Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev and Tony Award–winning playwright and activist Eve Ensler.

We all love Restaurant Week, and it turns out, Nantucket loves it, too. With eateries like Brant Point Grill, TOPPER’S, and more serving up three-course dinners from $25 to $45, you’re in for some mouthwatering meals that won’t soon be forgotten.

Family activities. Live music. More cranberries than any one person could ever eat. That’s what the Nantucket Conservation Foundation’s Cranberry Festival is all about. Take some of the freshly harvested cranberries home with you and prepare to win the “best side dish” award come Thanksgiving.

Festival of Wreaths
As the holiday season starts to gear up, the island gets festive. It’s become a Nantucket tradition for members of the community to craft 80 handmade wreaths – and this is your chance to bid on (and take home) one for your seasonal centerpiece.
