It’s been real, summer. But this long weekend tells me it’s time to send you on your way (the endless parades, lack of white, and amazing smell of outdoor barbecues were a dead giveaway). But Labor Day weekend means something different to everyone. I, for one, see it as an opportunity to break out the boots, get in some last rays, and ignore the no-white-pants rule – I know, shame on me. But what about everyone else?

Happy Friday, Project Runway fans! Last week, the designers sent nature-inspired mini collections down the runway. This week, it was all about shoes – complete with a sketching session in the Marie Claire shoe closet. (Jealous.) Here’s how it went.

The good: I loved Ken’s peplum minidress paired with lace-up heels, and the judges did, too. Zac wasn’t into the bag, but noted that the wearer wouldn’t need it anyway since “everyone is going to pay for her.” Alexandria was smart to pick thigh-high gladiator sandals – they stole the show – but I would have liked to see more color in her actual design. And Helen’s rocker bootie–inspired cape dress looked so high-end I thought the judges might try to buy it off the model.

I also have to mention Karen’s pop of neon – refreshing after a runway full of black, black, black.

The bad (and the ugly): The judges picked on Jeremy for his Pretty Woman stiletto boots, but really, that chiffon sweater looked like a deflated jellyfish. Though the gold tuxedo loafers Bradon selected were lovely, his top reminded me of a bridesmaid’s dress gone really, really wrong – he has to stop breaking my heart like this. Miranda attempted a similar silhouette to last week’s disaster, but the holiday-esque plaid and red loafers prompted Nina to ask, “Where’s the eggnog?”

The last laugh: Ken’s own description of his model – “man-eater of the new millennium” – was spot-on. Though he’s been edited as the season’s “villain” and a bit of a diva, the guy does know how to construct a dress.

Who else is excited for Michael Kors’s impending return as guest judge? I’ve grown to love Zac, but ultimately I want to have my cake and eat it, too. (That is, both of them. Every week. Forever.)

Did the right person go home? I say yes. Let us know your thoughts on Twitter – we’re at @ruelala. And until September, auf Wiedersehen.

I’ll admit it: I’m obsessed – and it takes a lot for me to become obsessed with someone’s style. But if there’s one person we should all be taking style cues from, it’s Russia’s pint-sized It girl and Buro 24/7 editor, Miroslava (Mira) Duma. JackieSays_08-29-13

This weekend, we’re unofficially sending off summer. Which would be thoroughly sad (no one likes beach weekends more than the lot of us) except for that giddifying word – fall.

Here, four bloggers give us a peek at all the season has in store.

1. Sacramento Street
We reserve exclamation points for only the most exciting things on earth. Like boots! (!!!)

2. Dallas Shaw
Hello, Helmut Lang leather jacket. Sometimes the line between want and need is so unfairly blurred.

3. delight by design
If we ever wanted to match our dinner to our fall wardrobe (you know, just because), Blair’s richly hued beet and avocado salad would be a good place to start.

4. Could I Have That?
Repeat after us: more leopard, please. #wedie

Let’s go back. Way, way back. To a time before Seattle grunge and even before the Brawny Man. Okay, we’re there. Look around. See that? Guys are wearing plaid. Guys have always been wearing plaid. Plaid is a bona fide classic. And as any guy even barely hip to today’s menswear scene knows, tradition is having a serious moment.

So now that you’ve realized you can’t live without a plaid shirt (or ninety), let’s talk about how you wear it. Because though tossing one on by itself is easy stuff – and perfectly fine – you can do better than that.

Creating a chic work space in the home doesn’t have to break the bank. In fact, you can accomplish color, comfort, and style with just a few key pieces. These six picks do just that.

Start with a desk. It’ll set the tone for the entire scene.

Add a bold color. Seasonally appropriate burnt orange is our space’s eye candy.

Accent with personality. Ornate mirrors, travel maps – choose décor that speaks to you.

DKNY PR GIRL®: People who say Happy Monday!!, HOW?
Open mouth. Form two words. Know one is a lie. #simple

‪@MandyHubbard: Like… did Justin really think we would prefer 97 solo songs and just 110 seconds of NSYNC reunion?
No, but… are you really complaining?

‪@jillbywell: I keep seeing all these ridiculously tasty-looking dairy-free cheesecakes and getting amped…then I remember I don’t have a springform pan.
Of all the challenges involved in making a palatable non-cheese cheesecake, buying a pan should be the least of them.

‪@ManRepeller: What is it about hugging girls swaying back and forth?
If we’re excited enough to hug, we’re darn well excited enough to sway.

‪@BitsofBeauty: I want a Marchesa dress and a reason to wear it.
Said everyone ever.
