Rue How-To: Master the Jewel-Tones Trend

Color lovers, rejoice. Jewel tones is a key trend this fall, meaning those brilliant hues you’ve been wearing with abandon since spring don’t have to be banished to the back of your closet for the off-season.

What is a jewel tone? Interpret it literally. Emerald, sapphire, and ruby hues all count. And, like any trend, the power lies in how you wear it.

Keep it dark.
While yes, this is color, jewel tones aren’t neons. Dark, brooding blues and deep reds are perfectly on point. (Think renaissance.)

Fabrics are key.
Whether velvet, brocade, or raw silk, a textured material will lend any jewel hue a deep, intriguing richness.

Start with a little.
Whether by way of a dark purple scarf or nails in royal blue, you don’t have to dive in head first. A little color goes a long way here.

While yes, this is a trend, it also just so happens to be one of hues that are timeless (so splurge). That statement bag, for example? Get it in a rich emerald. You’ll be on point for life.
