Rue How-To: Amp Up That LBD with Seasonal Shades

When it comes to holiday soirees, you can’t go wrong with a little black dress. Timeless, figure-flattering, and a favorite of the always-chic Holly Golightly, an LBD is like wardrobe magic – it works for everything (even awkward office parties). But this year, I’m kicking the classic up a notch and throwing in on-trend seasonal shades of white, gold, and red.

Check out the accent colors in action (above), then just try and tell me you won’t be adding them to your LBD rotation.

Black & White
The monochrome trend has been everywhere lately – and it’s not hard to see why. It’s a classic combination that, when done right (like the oh-so-chic mod number above), holds both sweet and sultry appeal.

Black & Gold
In a season full of sparkles (from twinkling tree lights to shiny wrapping paper), why not add a little matte metallic to your outfit? With a few gold panels, a dress (like the one above) goes from safe to seriously show-stopping.

Black & Red
The unofficial color of the holiday season (don’t tell green), red instantly telegraphs festive flavor. But the trick here is to do it in small doses so you can wear it long past New Year’s.

Our Perfectly Paired: Start with Black Boutique opens Tuesday, October 16, at 3PM ET.
