The Power of an LBD: How to Rock the Cocktail Staple

I’ll admit it – I’ve been guilty of underestimating the power of the LBD. I mean, I’ve always known it’s quick and easy cocktail attire (just throw on stilettos and go), but I never realized – until today – how much untapped potential this simple little dress really has. From adding some edge with a leather jacket to tying on a chambray shirt for a decidedly hipster feel, four members of our creative team styled writer Brianna’s LBD, making the closet staple uniquely their own (not to mention giving me some great outfit ideas for fall).

Brianna L., Junior Copywriter
“I’m a big fan of the girly-meets-edgy look, and this LBD is the ideal blank canvas for piling on fierce extras. The rock-n-roll-inspired necklace and leather jacket paired with these sky-high heels take this simple shift from demure to daring for a feel that’s perfect for Friday night.”

Sarah S., Junior Copywriter
“I’ve gotten in the (totally satisfying) habit of throwing a chambray shirt over pretty much everything – LBDs included. It’s the easiest way to bring a decidedly fancy piece back down to earth.”

Abigail K., Editor
“If there’s one thing I love, it’s neutrals. But every neutral needs a little drama, so I always get the urge to pile on at least one statement-making pop of color. Whether it be a giant, neon envelope clutch, a killer pair of pumps, or (in this case) a brightly colored necklace, every outfit needs a focal point.”

Joanna B., Editor
“As the days get chillier, layers are key. So I kept the look warm and cozy with help from a trusty pair of black tights, easy-to-wear loafers (so comfy, they’re my commuter shoes, too), and a nubby grey sweater.”
