Road Trip Across America: The Fashion Poet’s Guide to Miami

Miami is known as the Magic City for many reasons. There are pristine beaches, a melting pot of cultures, lots of eateries offering delectable dishes, great shopping spots, and places to dance the night away. When in Miami – or, as denizens like to call it, the “305” – here are some must-see things to check out.

WHAT TO DO
Miami Beach is one of the most gorgeous beaches in the world. It’s a must-stop for relaxing, sunbathing, and checking out some of the best-looking people. Take a stroll on touristy Ocean Drive and enjoy a mojito. Then hit up Lincoln Road for some of the best restaurants and shopping spots. It’s a favorite local hang out.

WHAT TO SEE
Wynwood Arts District. Over the last couple of years Wynwood has become the hotbed for artists, musicians, fashionistas, and hipsters. There are amazing outdoor murals, frequent model shoots, and plenty of new eateries and cafes popping up. The Wynwood Art Walk takes place the second Saturday of every month — art galleries everywhere open up and hundreds of people head out for one big, giant street party. One must-stop gallery for any style setter is Keni Valenti, Miami’s first fashion gallery. There you can see everything from designs by vintage YSL to Mr. Blackwell on exhibit.

WHERE TO EAT
When in doubt over where to break bread, this gigi boutique is swarming with a stylish crowd. Best part of about it is the budget-friendly tapas menu, with a variety of dishes from noodle and rice bowls to barbecue ribs and mini ice cream cones.

WHAT TO PACK
Aside from flip-flops, a bikini, and sunscreen, packing for Miami means schlepping a wardrobe that’s all about bright hues, oversized sunnies and breezy frocks, and cute accessories like fedoras and chunky jewelry. It’s 85 degrees in Miami most of the time and anything goes – crop tops, cutoffs, high-waisted shorts, harem pants, and platforms. But think light-weight clothing.
