This time of year, we’ve been known to keep a packed by beach bag by the door, in case the mood strikes. Here’s our never-fail list of what’s inside.

1. SPF
   Yep, it sounds like a no-brainer, but you wouldn’t believe how easy it is to leave on the kitchen counter.
2. A Pair of Sunnies
   Because face it, squinting is no fun.
3. A Ziploc Bag
   Just the thing for stowing a wet swimsuit.
4. A Beach Read
   Whether it’s a fashion rag or classic tome, the beach is that much better when you have something to flip through.
5. A Pack of Cards
   Trust us, few things compare to a mean game of spit under the sun.
6. Chapstick
   A chapstick like Aquaphor Lip Repair & Protect keeps those smackers from cracking in the heat.
7. An Ice-Cold Water Bottle*
   Okay, okay this one is kinda cheating because we throw it in before we leave the house, but staying hydrated is key.

9. Baby Powder
   The silky soft powder works wonders for brushing those pesky grains of sand away before heading home.
