Stay in Bed: Breakfast & Brunch Essentials
Nothing’s more indulgent than breakfast in bed, and since we’re celebrating renewal through the month of April, it’s the perfect time to pamper the ones you love (moms and S/Os, we’re looking at you) by slipping quietly out of bed one morning and surprising them with such a treat, or to show a little self-love by making your favorite breakfast, breaking out your prettiest dishes and climbing back into bed to enjoy it! Camille Styles here, and I’m thrilled to be popping back in on the Rue La La blog with a few tips for preparing one of my favorite special occasion meals. Keep reading for recipes and ideas for making yours unforgettable!
You can’t go wrong with the poached eggs on toast combo in the top image, but for those of us craving a healthier treat, these adorable mason jar parfaits are delicious and super portable. In a canning jar (Weck‘s are shown), layer plain Greek yogurt with honey. Serve alongside fresh berries and homemade granola for the perfect combo. This fruit-and-nut-packed version is my fave recipe, and I love adding different combinations of nuts and dried fruits depending on my mood.
Of course, the food is only half the fun of breakfast in bed…now’s the time to break out your prettiest teapot and chicest tray (check out the great selection in Rue La La’s Stay in Bed Boutique happening today!). This gold French press is such a glam way to serve coffee and instantly elevates an everyday ritual to special occasion status. Add colorful linen napkins, a glass of fresh-squeezed orange juice, the daily newspaper, and a small bouquet of spring flowers, and your breakfast tray is complete!
These silver “heated” plates can be found at antique shops, and definitely take the level of service to new heights. In lieu of such a fancy accessory, warm stoneware plates in a 250-degree oven for a similar effect, then top with freshly-cooked French toast sprinkled with powdered sugar and served with warm maple syrup. Remember: this is the perfect moment to take a look at what you have stashed away – be it your grandmother’s silverware (especially for Mother’s Day), china from your registry or the linens usually saved for holidays – and put it to good use!
Oh, and an added bonus? The lucky recipient of your breakfast in bed will definitely want to return the favor … by cleaning up all the dishes, perhaps?
