Rue How-To: The Closet Cleanse
Right now, we’re in full-on spring cleaning mode. At the top of our list? De-cluttering our closet. To help check off that box, we enlisted the help of Rue stylist and resident closet coach Alexandra. To take the closet cleanse plunge with us, check out her (surprisingly) easy tips for organizing the wardrobe space.
Cleanse. Get rid of all non-wardrobe items from your closet. That means no old stuffed animals or picture albums.
Edit. Keep the clothes you love and toss the ones you don’t. Anything that doesn’t fit (these pieces will taunt you) or that you haven’t worn in 2+ years needs to go. Hang what’s left on slimline hangers to save space and keep things neat.
Winter Storage. Break out some plastic bins and store away all your furs, wool, and suede. Label the bins with colored tape for added (and stylish) organization.
Transitional Pieces. Never pack away pieces like tees, tanks, cardis, and lightweight blazers. These are the seasonless pieces you’ll always want on hand.
Inspire. Create an inspiration board like these customizable ones for a stylish place to hang all your outfit ideas (trust us, they come in handy on those I-have-nothing-to-wear days).
Springify. Add some color to your closet with bold artwork. Take a page from your favorite magazine (literally), then have it matted and framed for a cheap and easy piece of wall décor.
Shopping List. Make a list of the items you need in order to build your wardrobe for spring. Keep this on hand and you’ll always know what you need.
