When it comes to makeup, a bold red lip is a game changer. A favorite of 50s movie stars and runway glamazons, the crimson color has transformative powers, taking looks from simple to stunning and giving us the perfect pout for a night out.

Here, Rue makeup artist Rachel takes us behind the scenes of our Now Playing: Iconic Style from the Silver Screen Boutique to show us the trick to iconic red lips in just three simple steps.

Step 1: Apply a red lipstick that complements your skin tone. Brick red with a hint of orange is best for warm tones while those with cool skin tones should stick to shades with blue and berry undertones (think plum and blackberry red).

Step 2: Outline and fill in lips with a red pencil, and remember, the more pencil you use, the less likely your color is to bleed.

Step 3: Add concealer around the outside of your lips to create a super crisp and clean line (this also prevents the color from bleeding).
