NYFW Celeb Sightings
New York Fashion Week always brings out celebrities both major and minor, and this season is no exception. As the shows wind down (tomorrow is the last official day of NYFW before the action moves to London), I’ve seen more famous front-row faces this week than I’ve seen on any recent red carpet.
The celebfest kicked off Wednesday when Valentino Garavani rolled in to town for the FIT Couture Council luncheon in his honor (Daphne Guinness and Kobe Bryant, anyone?) and has continued ever since, with Hollywood hipsters Natasha Lyonne and Cory Kennedy at the Imitation of Christ show, Lindsay Lohan and Alexa Chung at Cynthia Rowley, Malin Ackerman, Erika Christensen and Rose McGowan at Honor, and Brad Goreski and Kevin McHale (aka, Artie from Glee) at Band of Outsiders on Saturday.
The A-listers came out in force starting Sunday, with Mandy Moore, Susan Sarandon, Eva Amurri, Mariska Hargitay, and Shantel VanSanten brightening Lela Rose’s front row (figuratively and literally, as they all looked fab in the designer’s color-saturated creations). Rebecca Minkoff drew and equally impressive lineup, with Jessica Szohr, Katie Cassidy, Alexis Bledel, Michelle Trachtenberg, Sophia Bush, Leven Rambin, Cameron Richardson, and Peaches Geldof in attendance.
Molly Sims sang the praises of her pal, Rachel Roy at the latter’s outdoor presentation on the sunny promenade of Avery Fisher Hall. Newlywed Kim Kardashian came to support Vera Wang (designer of her wedding dress), as did Beyoncé and Solange Knowles, socialite stylist Lauren Santo Domingo, Rachel Roy, artist Rachel Feinstein and – my favorite unlikely celebrity spotting of the week – former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright.
I saw celeb stylist Robert Verdi carrying his own chairs through the Lincoln Center lobby (“if they won’t give me a front seat, I just bring my own!” he cracked). Valentino, Oscar de la Renta, Nicky Hilton, Poppy Delevigne, and Carine Roitfeld were on hand at Diane von Furstenberg.
Marchesa’s runway show was a veritable smorgasbord of familiar faces, from designer Georgina Chapman’s hubby, Harvey Weinstein (who heads up Mirimax), to the famous women who wear the collection (think: Emma Roberts, Kelly Osbourne, Camilla Belle, Mandy Moore, Michelle Trachtenberg, Rachel Zoe, Michelle Monaghan, and Naomi Campbell). And Michael Kors’ show drew celebrities ranging from Courtney Love to Michael Douglas (two names you rarely see in the same sentence, let alone the same room).
That’s a lot of star wattage for one week, wouldn’t you agree? And there’s still a day and a half of shows left, so I can’t wait to see who turns out for Phillip Lim, threeASFOUR, Anna Sui, Ralph Lauren, Calvin Klein, and Marc Jacobs, the latter of which is always the biggest celeb draw and closes New York Fashion Week tomorrow night.
