Preparing for a locale that’s characterized by the tagline “rustic elegance” is no easy feat. So we teamed up with the concierge at the Wickaninnish Inn to compile our own packing list by occasion.
Dinner at The Pointe Restaurant or browsing an art gallery: Gentlemen, in the name of West Coast ‘lax lifestyle, eschew the jacket and tie in favor of a pair of dark-washed jeans and a sport shirt. Women, put your trust in a laid-back dress and a pair of ballet flats to do all the legwork.
Rainy days: Seasonal showers need not put a damper on Tofino. There’s no need to worry, as the Inn outfits all guests with the proper raingear and boots, although we suggest you pack a chic umbrella.
Surfing: Bring your pursuit of adrenaline and your swimsuits. In chillier temps, all the equipment – including surfboards, bodyboards, and skimboards – is available for rent, as well as wetsuits (with boots, gloves, and hoods).
Freshwater fishing: To avoid scaring off the fish, pack dark-colored clothing that’s comfortable and can afford to get dirty. Rods, reels, and lines can all be rented nearby.
Hiking: Take along pants that are conducive to movement, a top that’s moisture-wicking, a pair of wool socks, broken-in hiking boots, a water bottle, and some sleek shades.
No matter which activities call your name, make sure to pack a camera and plenty of layers.
The Wickaninnish Inn – Tofino, Canada Boutique opens Thursday, August 25 at 11AM ET.
