Seasoned fashion editors tend to look to the Prada collection to reveal the “it” look of the season. Throughout the years, the collections have tended to shock at first – and then the next thing you know it’s what everyone wants to get their hands on (who could forget the satin and turban Spring Collection of ’07?). For her fall collection, Miuccia Prada sent down the runways knee-high boots and ’20s-style coats made out of intensely colored python skin. And it was good. While reviews of the show were mixed, we know that that python coat and those boots will be popping up everywhere you turn come fall, since it showed up in many other collections from Cavalli to Chloé.
Snakeskin can have the bad rep of appearing ostentatious or in bad taste, but this season, it’s a must-have (whether genuine or faux). For those who are skeptical that walking around in snakeskin boots might warrant looks of disconcertion, consider a less obvious option – snakeskin accessories. Clutches and even jewelry blend well with any seasonal outfit, and elevate the richness.
Accessory designer Kara Ross is a go-to when looking for accessories in skins. Take cues from her collection and tote a colored python clutch with your evening look, or rock a lizard-scale cuff with your daytime ensemble to add an element of luxury. Snakeskin in moderation never goes out of season. So while you will inevitably admire the celebs that end up wearing the floor-length python coat by Chloé come fall, you can be just as stylish with the right snakeskin accessories. Swipe up a few of Kara Ross’s pieces – you might as well get ahead of the trends for fall!
